Member of the Month March 2023: LEAD Project on Landscape Restoration

On 31st of March, 2023, our usual Member of the Month session took place, and Communitor hosted a special guest, Eng. Njamasi S. Chiwanga. Eng. Njamasi presented the LEAD project on Land Restoration in Tanzania. LEAD Foundation aims to promote best principles and practices in sustainable environmental conservation and community development through training, consultancy, research, advocacy, and facilitation of community-initiated projects. Eng. Njamasi told us that for the past 12 years, LEAD has been implementing environmental restoration programs in Tanzania, applying several natural methods such as Kisiki Hai (natural regeneration of trees) and Fanya Juu (digging trenches for preventing soil erosion), harvesting rainwater for pasture, and others. Thanks to these methods and the active participation of the communities, millions of trees were regenerated, and the vegetation returned to deserted areas. The presented results were incredible.
