Charting the Path Ahead: A Three-Day Seminar on 'The Future of Evaluation' in Uganda

We want to inform you about an upcoming three-day seminar (28-29-30 November 2023) on “the Future of Evaluation” we will co-organize with the Special Evaluation Office of the Belgian Development Cooperation (SEO) in Entebbe, Uganda.

The seminar wants to bring together professionals working in/ on evaluation from all over the world to share ideas, perceptions, and information about opportunities and challenges for the future of evaluation and brainstorm/co-create ways to cope with those challenges while also jointly building on the opportunities ahead.

The seminar comprises a three-day program with (parallel) method workshops, content sessions, a keynote address, co-creation labs, and an evaluation poster fair (reception and walking dinner). A tentative schedule is provided below.

For the methods workshop, we were thinking about several methods, like participatory GIS for evaluation, narratives for evaluation, and visual evaluation methods, while for the content sessions, we were hoping to organize sessions on some topics we think could be essential opportunities/ challenges in the future of evaluation such as indigenizing evaluation, youth and evaluation, big data and evaluation, A.I. and evaluation.

Participation in the seminar is free. Additionally, IOB offers a maximum of 5 IOB/ alumni or members of Communitor a “scholarship” to participate live in this three-day seminar. The scholarship will cover your international travel and accommodation and participation in the seminar (including 3 x lunch, coffee breaks, a walking dinner during the evaluation fair) for IOB Alumni or members of the Communitor, who can make a valuable contribution to the seminar for example, (co-) hosting a workshop (e.g., conflict & evaluation/ visual methods of evaluation, gender sensitive evaluation and others) or ideas lab or present at the evaluation fair.

If you want to participate as a self-financing participant, you do not need to showcase your possible contribution. If you want to participate with a “scholarship,” kindly elaborate on how you could contribute to the seminar using the form.

No online/hybrid participation possible. After the seminar, some sessions will be shared in other formats through our Communitor network.

The seminar is conceptualized as a three-day opportunity for interaction, peer learning, brainstorming, and co-creation among all the participants, who are all working on evaluation in different contexts, using various methods/ tools, and looking at M&E through different perspectives. Learning from/with each other is critical!

If you are interested in participating in the seminar, kindly fill in the online form before the 3rd of October, 2023. There is only 1 form, both for self-financing and scholarship participation. The best candidates (in terms of contribution to the seminar, motivation to participate, and your contribution to strengthening evaluation) will receive a scholarship. Balance in nationalities, sectors, gender, and other criteria will be considered.
