Call for Papers: CBM & Citizen Science: Contribution to a Future Proof Evaluation

Asia Pacific Journal of Evaluation (APJE) in collaboration with the Communitor invite authors to submit papers for consideration for a Special Issue of APJE. This Special Issue of APJE will focus on the theme Is community-based monitoring (CBM)/citizen science contributing to making evaluation more future proof? In line with this theme, this Special Issue seeks submissions on relevant topics such as the following:


Contribution of CBM/citizen science to the field of evaluation

Contemporary issues, challenges and/or opportunities of CBM/citizen science

CBM/citizen science and link to local/indigenous knowledge and culture responsive evaluation

Mobile CBM/citizen science (and big data)

CBM/citizen science in fragile or conflict contexts

Innovations in CBM/citizen science.


For this Special Issue of APJE, authors are required to first submit a long abstract (between 800- 1,000 words), which shall undergo blind reviews. The long abstract shall include the motivation and objectives of the paper, the methodology, the preliminary findings and the conclusion. Authors of selected paper abstracts will be asked to prepare a PowerPoint and/or video based on the first draft version of their paper to be presented in a seminar in Tanzania (either onsite or online). The seminar will be organized by the Communitor network in February 2023. After the presentation in Tanzania, the first draft of the paper shall be revised by the author/s considering the comments and suggestions they will receive. The revised full paper (between 5,000-6,000 words) shall be submitted to undergo the second stage of review. Selected papers based on the blind review process shall be included in the Special Issue. Authors should take note of the following important dates:

• Submission of long abstracts: December 16th, 2022

• First blind reviews & selection of papers: by January 9th, 2023

• PowerPoint presentations & discussion: February 3rd or 4th 2023 in Tanzania & online

• Submission of full papers: June 1st, 2023

• Finalizing the second blind reviews of full papers: September 1st, 2023

• Final versions of papers: November 30th, 2023.
